Longtown Store & Breeding Cattle Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their fortnightly sale of store and breeding cattle on Tuesday 20th September 2022.

A mixed entry of store cattle were on offer with forward sorts carrying flesh very much in demand. Leaner longer term cattle proving harder to place.

The sale topped at £1,340 for Limousin bullocks shown by CT & J Wigham & Son, Hethermill, Kirklinton, who also sold Friesians at £1,270 (x2).

Cattle are keenly and actively sought after for the special Prize Show and Sale of mainly continental cattle, which will be held at Longtown on Saturday 1st October. The Show is for the Longtown Cup and the Perpetual Trophy for best Charolais.

Included in today’s sale of breeding cattle was the major reduction of Galloway cows from Eskdale & Liddesdale Farming. A packed ringside of potential purchasers from all corners of the United Kingdom, all of which were eager to purchase some of the quality Galloway breeding stock on offer and bid freely at the ringside for this rare opportunity to purchase such stock. Topping the sale was a pure bred Galloway cow with a smart Galloway bull calf at foot realising £1700, which was purchased by Mr R Keepence, Cheltenham.
