Longtown Store Cattle Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their Annual Prize Show and Sale of 517 Store Cattle on Saturday 30th September 2023.

An outstanding show of seriously well bred cattle, mainly 11-16m of age was forward to a packed ring of purchasers ensuring all classes were in serious demand. Credit to the vendors who put on a show of cattle that had to be seen to be believed, second to none.

Champion a Charolais x Heifer sold for £1820 from WC and E Bell Low Houses

Judging was carried out by Mr Anthony Tindale, Paradise, Co Durham, who had a very difficult task in front of him. Anthony duly awarded his champion beast to a phenomenal Charolais heifer that oozed class, also taking home the cup for best Charolais beast on show, being consigned by M/s Bell, Low Houses, Brampton. This heifer went onto realise £1,820 going home with the judge. The show was kindly sponsored by Capontree Vets.

Top Price of the day went to the first placed Limousin Heifer consigned by M/s Gass, Nunscleugh, Bewcastle which went on to realise £2,000. This expertly exhibited run of 60 shapely Limousin cattle went on to average an outstanding £1,470.68

Top herd average of the day was another outstanding run of Limousin cattle consigned by M/s Phillips, Netherhill levelling at £1,558 for 5 sold.

Not far behind were M/s Telford, High Parkfoot who sold their usual stamp of fantastic Charolais cattle topping at £1,790 for a rangy Charolais steer that topped the steer section as well, levelling at £1,554 for 10 sold.

Younger cattle also sold to a big trade with 10 month old steers topping at £1,480 for a black Limousin boy from M/s Gass, Nunscleugh and heifers to £1,430 for another 10m old British Blue lady consigned by M/s Reed & Hill, Lingey Field, Hexham.
