Longtown Store & Breeding Cattle Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their January sale of 310 breeding and store cattle on Tuesday 16th January 2024.

Simmental x in calf heifers consigned by WA & CM Vaughan, High Dovecote, Walton sold to £1,500.

Topping the sale was a forward pure bred Aberdeen Angus bull which went on to realise £2,080 consigned by regular vendors M/s JF & JK Hayward & Son, Fell House, Colwell, who’s run of 12 averaged £1,815.

Wanwood Partners, Wanwood Hill, Alston, brought forward some of the finest bred suckled calves to have graced the ring at Longtown in many years. Potential purchasers queued up to get their hands on these outstanding cattle. Their consignment of 10, 9 month old cattle went under the hammer topping the heifer section at £2,000 for their pen leader which was sired by East Unthank Gromit and out of a home bred Limousin cow, a real show potential dark red Limousin heifer which went on to realise £2,000 to an undisclosed Aberdeenshire purchaser. Another red heifer the same way bred sold for £1,800 to renowned herd masters M/s Lee, Agars Hill, Hexham, which will be a fine acquisition to their herd. Wanwood’s pen of calves went on to average a staggering £1,644.

M/s Carr, Camphill, Barrasford made a successful trip west topping at £1,640 for a shapely Limousin steer achieving an average of £1,570 for 5 sold.

Charolais topped the bullock section at £1,780 for a phenomenal bullock consigned by regular vendors M/s RI & VA Telford, High Parkfoot, Roadhead. 

All classes of cattle can be marketed to vendor advantage and customers old and new are urged to utilise this outlet to maximise cattle returns.
