Longtown Store Sheep Sale Report


The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 1,701 store hoggs and 784 in lamb ewes & ewes with lambs at their Sale at Longtown on Tuesday 11th March 2014.

A quality show of hoggs attracted more buyers, trade best so far.

Top of £98.50 for Beltex from Crookston who sold others at £93 and £89; Texel £93.50 Routin Lynn, £90 Midknock, £87.50 Greyside; Cheviot Mule £93.50 Routin Lynn; Hill Cheviot £92.50 Drycleughlea, £72 Ramseycleugh; Charollais £90.50 Moss Edge; Half Bred £89.50 Adderston Shields; Suffolk £88 Greyside, £85.50 Keepershield, £83.50 Routin Lynn; North Country Cheviot £83.50 Stouphill, £80.50 North House; Greyface £75.50 Bimmer Hill, £73 Crookston, £71.50 Routin Lynn; Kerry Hill £74 Ramseycleugh; Blackface £70 Greyside, £63.50 Nunnerie; Zwartbles £57.50 Nunnerie; Kendal Rough £56.50 Red House.

Cast ewes to £60 Muirfield, hill types £53 Burnfoot of Ewes. Cast rams to £74 Bankhead.

At the sale of breeding sheep, a good entry attracted a lot of interest with everything being very easy to sell as was the first of the season ewes and lambs selling to a top of £58 each for Texel and Dorset outfits from Garden Cottage and Pennyhill Park, who also sold Greyface outfits at £50 each.

Also included in the sale was the dispersal from Messrs A.F. Young & Co., Bankhead, Canonbie, their stock was well shown and created a lot of interest, they had the top price of the day for in lambers at £124 and £116 for Greyfaces, Beltex £110 and Hill Cheviots £67.

Other in lambers sold to £94 for Greyface from Garth Head. Geld ewe hoggs to £81 and £80 for Greyfaces from Garth Head.
