Longtown Store Sheep Sale Report


The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 502 ewes and lambs, in lamb hoggs and also 1,782 store hoggs at their Sale at Longtown on Tuesday 18th March 2014.

A good entry of Store hoggs easily maintained last weeks extreme rates.

Top of £95 for a Beltex from 16 Ladylands Drive; Texel £91.50, £89.50 Dinwoodie Green, others £86.50 Keepershield; Suffolk £83.50 Brewery House Barn, £82.50 Bracken Court; Greyface £81.50 Brewery House Barn, £81 Allfornaught, £77 Whitfield Farms; North Country Cheviot £78.50 Cocklawfoot, £76.50 Kilfinnan, £70.50 Hownam Grange; Charollais £77.50 Dinley; Blackface £76.50 Kirkland, £71 Barron House; Rouge £76.50 Dinwoodie Green; Half Bred £74.50 Marwhirn; Hill Cheviot £74 Twislehope, £69.50 Allfornaught; Easycare £71 Bairnkine; Swaledale £63.50, £57 Whitfield Farms; Herdwick £58, £57.50 Rowhead.

Cast ewes to £66 Dinwoodie Green, hill types to £57 Twislehope, cast rams to £64.50 High Nook.

A larger show of ewes with lambs met a great enquiry with all classes easily cleared and short of requirements.

Top of £80 and £76 for Texel ewes with singles from Rosebank Crescent who also sold Charollais with singles at £70 each. Greyface ewes with twins sold to £63 and £58 from Tonehall. Cheviot ewes with twins to £45, £44 Eastfield of Wiston who sold singles at £45 and £44.

In lamb hoggs to £100 for Suffolk Mules from Greystone House who sold Texels at £90.

Geld hoggs to £88 for Greyface from Crookston who also sold Blackfaces at £68.
