Longtown Store Sheep Sale Report

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc had forward 5,945 store lambs at their weekly sale at Longtown on Wednesday 17th September 2014.

It was the prize show & sale of Hill Northies, Hill Cheviot and Blackface lambs which were ably judged by Neil Conaghan, Redwood House, Gretna, whose awards were as follows:-

Cheviots - Hill Northie

1st – Messrs Bradbury, Satchells, Lilliesleaf, Melrose.

2nd – Messrs Waugh, Effgill, Westerkirk, Langholm.

3rd – Messrs Bradbury, Satchells.

Cheviots - Hill

1st – Messrs Elliot, Hindhope, Jedburgh.

2nd – Buccleuch Estates, Cooms, Langholm.

3rd – E. Randall, Drycleughlea, Ettrick.

A great show of (2,607) both met an exceptional trade.  Top price in the Hill Cheviot section was £59.50 Cooms, £59 Glendinning and Hopsrigg, £58.50 Windyhaugh, £57 Castle Crawford.

Hill Northies to £62.50 East Murton, £59.50 Satchells, £57.50 Commonside, £57 Effgill.

Blackface

1st – Messrs Bradbury, Haliburton, Greenlaw.

2nd – Wanwood Partners, Wanwood Hill, Alston.

3rd – H. & H. Robson, Townshields, Haydon Bridge.

Blackfaces (1,627) were an outstanding show with top draws very dear.  Top £57.50 Wanwood Hill, £56 Townshields, £54 Haliburton, £52 Bowan Hill.

All other lambs were good to sell with trade sharper on the week, more could easily have been sold to advantage.  Top of £76 for an outstanding pen of Beltex from Arnmannoch.
