Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report
STORE LAMBS
The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc had forward 8,914 store lambs at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 28th October, 2014.
A large and quality show attracted a full ring of buyers, many from Wales, trade was again dearer on the week.
The sale included two large consignments, firstly 557 Texel x lambs from Cocklakes House which sold to £68 and averaged £63.79, and secondly 447 Suffolk and Texel x lambs from Kirkton Hill which sold to £68 and averaged £62.45.

Cheviot lambs (1,963) were another good entry, trade sharper. Top of £64 for Hill Northies from Routin Lynn, £62 Cocklakes House, £60 Priesthaugh. Hill Cheviots to £63 Granton, £62.50 Potholm.
Blackface lambs (2,334) saw trade again dear. Top £58.50 Gatehouse, £58 Viewley, £56.50 Peela Hill.
BREEDING SHEEP
The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Mart P.L.C. had forward a catalogue entry of 2,401 breeding sheep at their late sale at Longtown on Tuesday 28th October 2014.
All classes, including rams were presented to a full ring of buyers all keen for sheep, with trade as good as any time this season. More could have been sold to advantage. The sale was topped at £250 for a North Country Cheviot ram from R. & T. Dun, Gilston, with females to a top of £128 for Texel shearlings from Haithwaite.
We will also be holding a last chance sale of breeding sheep next Tuesday, present entries include 400 Easycare two shear ewes from one farm.
