Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc had forward 4,354 store hoggs, cast rams and ewes at their Annual Special Sale at Longtown on Tuesday 6th January 2015.

Store hoggs met the dearest trade of the season with many buyers from the South present.

Top price of £79 for North Cheviots from Meikle Whitriggs; Suffolk £77 Borthwick Brae, £71.50 Vallance Drive, £70 Mid Murthat and Whitchesters; Texel £77 Mid Murthat, £75.50 Woodhouse, £73 Relief and Barnglieshead; Beltex £76.50 Uppertofts; Lleyn £71.50 Harper Hill; Dutch Texel £71 Crossgates Cottage; Blackface £70 Allensgreen, £69 Haithwaite, £64.50 Greyside; Greyface £68.50 The Bog, £68 Gall, £67.50 Greyside; Half Bred £68 Keepershields; Hill Cheviot £67 Haithwaite, £62 High Thorneyburn, £61 Elsdonburn; Swaledale £54 Patties Hill, £51 The Bog.

An entry of 487 cast rams and ewes met an extreme demand and many more could have been sold to advantage.
