Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C & D Auction Marts Limited had forward 6,091 store lambs at their weekly sale at Longtown on Wednesday 16th September, 2015.

Another good show of lambs attracted a lot more buyers, especially from a distance, trade was sharper all round by £2 to £5 per head.

Top was £64 and £60 for Texels from The Flatt; Beltex £63 Arnmannoch; Suffolk £60.50 Lustruther, £59.50 Gillalees; Charollais £57 The Flatt; Cheviot Mule £54 The Flatt; Greyface £53.50 Gillalees, £53 Hightown, £52.50 Cooks House and Lamperts Cottage, £52 Edston. Cast ewes to £70 Ellershope.

At the special sale of 1,058 Blackfaces a top quality entry of all classes sold very well. Top of £51 from Sewingshields, £48.50 Haliburton, £48 Megdale, £47 Townshield. Overall average £44.16.

At the special prize show & sale of 2,532 Cheviots, very ably judged by Bob Cartner, Blackwoodridgehouse, Waterbeck, whose awards were as follows:-

Hill Cheviots

1st Langholm Farms, Cooms, sold at £55.

2nd A. & A. Elliot, Hindhope, sold at £54.

3rd R.H. Paton, Castle Crawford, sold at £53.

Hill North Cheviot

1st T.J.C. Bradbury, Satchells, sold at £58.

2nd G. Sordy & Sons, Alnham Castlehill, sold at £54.50.

3rd D. & E. Waugh, Effgill, sold at £54.50.

Top was £62 for Hill Cheviot ewe lambs from Windyhaugh. In general Cheviots would be up £4 on the week with Hill Cheviots averaging £51.71 and Hill Northies at £54.02.
