Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

STORE SHEEP

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 5,014 store lambs and feeding ewes at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 10th November, 2015.

With buyers present from Yorkshire and Wales together with local feeders, store lambs were not the quality of the previous week, however, last week’s high rates were easily maintained.

Top of £63 for North Country Cheviots from Kelsocleugh, others £56, £54 Bradley, £53 High Lodore; Texel £62.50 Beckfoot and Greensburn, £62 Hightown, £61 Westhills; Beltex £62 Wallend; Suffolk £60.50 Wallend; Greyface £57.50 Greensburn, £57 Sheepriggs, £55 Deadwater; Lleyn £57.50 Low Tipalt; Charollais £56.50 Davidson Avenue; Cheviot Mule £52 High Chesters; Kendal Rough £37 Church View; Swaledale £35 Sheepriggs.

Cast ewes to £100 Davidson Avenue, hill types £58 Lochuisge, cast rams to £70 Wormscleugh Cottage.

The (1,442) Hill Cheviots attracted strong competition.  Top £52.50 Potholm, £50 Granton, £49 Girnwood.

Blackfaces (1,336) again sold very well.  Top £54 Horseholme, £50 Bowan Hill, £49 Greensburn.

BREEDING SHEEP

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward a small show of breeding sheep at Longtown on Tuesday 10th November 2015.

A small show of pedigree in lamb Charollais and Suffolk females were forward and met a good selling trade. Many more could be sold to advantage. They topped at £400 for in lamb Charollais shearlings from Messrs Kennedy, Wester Parkgate, to Messrs Scott, Alnwick, others to £300 and £280 (x2). Suffolks topped at £260 from Messrs Sykes, Talkin Head to J. McMurdo, Annan, others £180 (x3) and £150 (x2).

A small show of rams and ram lambs met a steady trade at the last chance sale selling to a top of £280 for a Texel ram lamb from Messrs Bell, Kirkton to Messrs Morris, Upper Duddlewick, others to £200 and £150. Blue Texel ram lambs to £100 (x3), Bluefaced Leicester shearling rams to £120 (x2).

A dispersal of 330 Blackface ewes from Carskiey Ltd., Southend, Campeltown met a great demand and sold as follows:- Shearlings £56, 2 crop £58 (x2), £50, 3 crop £59, 4 crop £49. Other Blackfaces to £59 and £57 for shearlings ex Dalhanna, Lleyn ewes to £66 and £65 Espland.
