Inaugural Show & Sale of Pedigree Suffolk Sheep

C&D Auction Marts Limited held their Inaugural Show & Sale of Pedigree Suffolk Rams and Females at Longtown on Thursday 7th & Friday 8th July 2016 where a catalogued entry of 50 sheep were forward and a great clearance rate of 93% was achieved with some very spirited bidding for the best sheep on offer.

A large ringside of over 150 people were present from all corners of the U.K. including a contingent of Spanish buyers as well.

Topping the sale and creating a new centre record for a sheep sold in Longtown, 13,000gns was the number one lamb from I.& J. Barbour, Solwaybank Flock, Annan. Sired by Lakeview Harbinger and out of a dam by Rhaedar Rastafari, this triplet born lamb was, after some very spirited bidding, knocked down to Mr R. Fitton to join the Maestro Flock at Ryders Farm.

Next in the ram lamb sales at 1,600gns was the pre-sale Champion from Hazel Martindale’s Landale Flock, Ecclefechan.  Standing first in the December born ram lambs class this Glenhead Gold son out of a Black Magic ewe was eventually knocked down to the judge, Mr J. Campbell to join the Thrunton Flock at Rosedene.

The pre-sale show on Thursday evening was kindly sponsored by Wm. Armstrong Longtown Ltd and with £1,500 prize money up for grabs the judging was placed in the very capable hands of Mr J. Campbell, Thrunton, Rosedene, who eventually awarded the Overall Championship to Hazel Martindale, Landale Flock for her December born ram lamb.

Reserve Overall Champion went to the December born ram lamb from I. & J. Barbour, Solwaybank which realised 450gns selling to Mr Ignacio, Llavandera, Spain.

The Female Championship was won by the number one gimmer from I. & G. Barbour, Solwaybank which was a Solwaybank Solario daughter out of a dam by Rhaedar Rastafari, she went on to realise 2,500gns, selling over the telephone to Mr P. Delves to join his Bridgeview flock in Powys.

The second Solwaybank gimmer by Solwaybank Goldfinger out of a dam by Cairness Costello was last year’s show lamb and went on to realise 2,100gns again over the phone to Mr Delves for his Bridgeview flock.

Reserve Female Champion was awarded to another gimmer from Mr T.A. Blair, Thornfleet, Clevleys, which realised 700gns to Mr Bailey, Low Swinton, Ripon.  She was by Raedar Red Bull out of a dam by Baileys Barbaro.
