Longtown Store Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 8,248 store lambs at their sale at Longtown on Wednesday 14th September 2016.

A large and quality show attracted a good company of both local and distant buyers, trade was again very good. Top of £80 and £78 for Texels from Lads Lodge, Penton, others to £79 Abbeymoss.

Beltex to £76 Lower Ashtrees. Suffolk crosses to £69 Bothwickbrae, £68 Satchells, £67.50 Abbeymoss. Greyface to £63.50 Wydon Eals and £62 Hightown. Cheviot Mule to £63.50 Priesthaugh. Lleyns to £64 and £61 Harwood House. Feeding ewes to £51 from East Stobbylea.

At the Special Prize Show and Sale of Hill Cheviots there was an entry of 3,573. Trade was again strong with pens up £5 on the year. Judging was carried out by Neil Conaghan, Redwood House, Gretna, who ably carried out his task.

1st – Sorbietrees Farms, Newcastleton and sold at £59.50

2nd – Messrs Bradbury, Satchells, Lilliesleaf and sold at £57

3rd – Messrs Paterson, Hopsrig, Westerkirk and sold at £58

Hill Cheviots sold to a top of £63.50 for an outstanding pen from Messrs Elliott, Hindhope, others to £60.50 from Windyhaugh, £60 Clenries & Glendinning.

Hill Northies to £64 Satchells, £62.50 Davington and £62 Effgill.

At the Special Prize Show and Sale of Blackface there was an entry of 1,514, trade was again buoyant with lambs easy to sell. Judging was again in the capable hands of Neil Conaghan, whose awards were as follows:
