Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 7,488 store lambs and feeding ewes at their sale at Longtown on Tuesday 1st November 2016.

With the largest company of distant buyers present this year and another large show, however quality was down on the week but all classes were in exceptional demand.

Top of £72 for Suffolk crosses from Messrs J Matthewson & Sons, Routin Lynn, Ford, who also sold Texels at £70, other Texels to £70 from Townfoot Farm.

Beltex to £70 Whitstone Hill. Charollais to £63 Tarrasfoot. Greyface to £62.50 Nether Onsett, £62 Wydon Eals and £60.50 Low Old Shields. Cheviot Mule to £62 Southdean Lodge. Lleyns to £60 Whiteknowe (Lowery). Herdwick to £47 West Hottbank. Swaledale to £38 Underbanks.

Cast ewes to £100 for heavies from Highfield Cottage, with hill types to £67 from High Thorneyburn. Cast rams to £92 Yeldabrek.

The 2,230 Cheviot lambs attracted more buyers with trade much sharper on the week. Top of £64.50 from Routin Lynn, £64 Damhead and £59 Gilston, also forward were 2,164 Blackface lambs, they were on the week a much sharper trade. Top of £55 from Sewing Shields, £53 Horseholme and £52 West Hottbank.
