Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report
STORE SHEEP
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 4,864 store lambs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 29th August 2017. Quality on offer was not as good but with a full ring of buyer’ s present, trade was on par with last week for all classes of quality lambs.
Top of £80 for Texels from Edgerston Home Farm, with others to £76 Gillalees and £73 Lower Ashtrees. Beltex to £72 Greenwell Meadows and Pilmuir. Suffolks to £60.50 Pilmuir and £60 Vallance Drive. Greyface to £62.50 Coolingel, £62 Park House and £60.50 Hesleywell. Cheviot Mules to £59.50 Westerton Cottage. Blackface to £51 Crindledykes. Hill Cheviots to £50 High Thorneyburn. Swaledale to £63 Woodland View. Romney to £55 Rammerscales.
Feeding ewes met a strong enquiry selling to a top of £60 from Gartnagrenach Farms. Hill types to £60 from Crindledykes.
BREEDING SHEEP
C&D Auction Marts held their 2nd breeding sale of 2,000 ewes and shearlings of all classes. Trade was very fast for the older ewes and dispersal sheep, whilst only the Continental and best end Mule shearlings were easy to sell, with others proving harder to cash.
The sale topped at £280 (x2) for Texel 2 crop ewes from the dispersal of TI & T Fitzsimon, Sunnyhill whose run of females were keenly sought after, and selling ewes at £240, £200 (x3), £180, £160 (x2) with shearlings to £260, £240, £200, £190, £180 (x2). He also sold Suffolk ram lambs to £350 and Texel shearlings to £260.
Other rams to £190, £160 for Texel x Charollais three shears from Messrs Bowe, Calvo.
A small show of Zwartble sheep met a nice trade to £130 for a shearling from W Boyd, Terregles.

Other breeding sheep sold to £160 for Texels shearlings from Messrs Graham, Upper Mains who also sold Suffolks at £145. Messrs Edminson, Middle Farm followed closely at £152 for Texels.
