Longtown Store Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 8,073 store lambs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 19th September 2017.

Another good entry attracted a full ring of buyers. All classes of strong lambs met a similar trade, with Greyface's the best this season. Hill lambs, both Cheviots and Blackface, with strength met a good demand although smaller lambs cheaper on the week.

Top overall was £72 for Suffolks from Dunshiel, Elsdon, others to £65 from Vallance Drive. Texels to £70 from Thomas Telford Road, others to £69 Skelfhill and £67 Lower Ashtrees. Beltex to £67 Edges Green. Charollais to £59.50 Moss Side. Cheviot Mule to £58.50 East Redfordgreen. Greyface to £67.50 Allensgreen, £63 Fell View and £62.50 Cooks House. Hampshire to £58.50 Dyke (Paterson). Easycare to £57 East Fortissat.

Over 300 feeding ewes were forward and met a good trade to top at £64 from Coolingel. Hill ewes to £51.50 for Cheviots from Glenbarr Farms and £39 for Blackface from Keppoch.

Cheviot Lambs: Over 2,300 saw trade for strong lamb’s good. Smaller lambs easier. Top Hill Cheviots to £58 Arkleton, £55 Glendinning and £51 Toftholm. Hill Northies to £56 East Murton and £55 Whiteknowe.

Blackface Lambs: A smaller entry of 1,025. Strong lambs were good to cash, smaller lambs easier. Top of £50 from The Row, £49 Queensberry Farm and £47 Earlshaugh.
