Longtown Cheviot Mule Sheep Sale Report
The Country's Principal Show and Sale of 11,329 Cheviot Mule Ewe Lambs and Shearlings along with Cheviot Mule Cross Ewe Lambs was held in Longtown on Tuesday 28th August 2018.
This year’s sale attracted a full ringside of buyers who were present from all over the British Isle. Trade for shearlings was strong and selling to £210 from R McNee, Over Finlarg matching last years record price achieved from the same home.
Trade for lambs was less on last year’s phenomenal trade however lambs were smaller and an extra 2,000 mainly runners, resulted in a fall of over £20 on the 2017 sale.

The Prize Show and Sale for pens of 20 Ewe Lambs and 20 Shearlings was kindly sponsored by The Farmers Guardian "The Marts The Heart" and was ably judged by Mr W R Williams, Ty-Hen, Gwynedd who awarded the Ewe Lamb Championship and The Paul Aynsley Perpetual Memorial Trophy to P W Hedley, Swinside Townfoot, Jedburgh which later went on to realise £160 to the judge Mr W R Williams, Wales, and the Shearling Championship went to Archbank Farming Company, Moffat realising £185 to Messrs Parkin, Maryport.

The 1,661 Cross Cheviot Mule lambs sold to a top of £114 for Texel cross from Messrs Smith, West Bolton.

Another excellent show of 3,094 Cheviot Mule and Cross Shearlings were forward selling to £210 and £200 from R McNee, Over Finlarg, Dundee. Cheviot Mule x Texel Shearlings to £152 Upper Mains and £130 Skelfhill. Half-bred shearlings to £122 from High Moat.
