Longtown Store Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 7,641 store lambs & feeding ewes at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 16th October 2018.

The largest show of the season, although quality not quite as good. Buyers were plentiful with quality lamb’s sharper and other lambs similar to last week. Top of £84 and £78 for Beltex from Castlehills Farm, Berwick on Tweed and £77 Lingey Field. Texels to £80 and £70 West Link Hall. Suffolks to £65.50 Priesthaugh, £64 Achadunan Estate and £63 Mains. Charollais to £67.50 Nether House. Cheviot Mules to £64 Gillesbie Farms. Greyface to £61.50 School Cottage, £59 Aldery Terrace and £58 Beacon Rigg. Lleyns to £64 Sharplaw, £58.50 and £58 Harwood House. Masham to £61 Pow Croft. Hampshire to £55 Dyke. Feeding ewes to £124 for Texels from Castlehills Farm. Hill ewes £47 East Foreshield.

The largest entry (2,816) and best quality show forward, met the dearest trade of the season. Top of £66 for Hill Cheviots from Granton, others to £65.50 East Redfordgreen, £64 Langhope, £61 Mount Benger. Hill Northies to £59 Hownam Grange, £57 Greenside & Achadunan Estate. Blackface (1,311) saw more numbers forward and a good trade to match. Top of £65 from Horseholme, others to £54 Upper Hindhope and £51 The Lamperts.

At todays prize show and sale of Cheviots and Blackface lambs, judging was in the capable hands of Norman Douglas, Catslackburn, Yarrow, who’s awards were as follows:
