Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

STORE SHEEP
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward an entry of 7,485 store lambs and feeding ewes at their sale at Longtown on Tuesday 30th October 2018.

Another large show saw plenty of both local and distant buyers present, all classes in very strong demand with all breed of lambs showing a rise on the week.

Top £102 and £79 for Texel tup lambs from Croit-Y-Kelly, Douglas Isle of Man; others to £73 Sunnycroft & Lower Ashtrees, £72 High Loveladyshield; Beltex to £80 Glebe Head, £79 Sorbie, £74 Felton Demense; Suffolks to £85 Shaw Cottage, £73 Bank Head, £72 Felton Demense; Charollais to £69.50 Monk Farm; Cheviot Mule to £59.50 Solwaybank; Romney to £52.50 Cooley Lodge Farm; Greyface to £67, £60.50 Tilery, £65 Horsley Hill & Townfoot Farm, £60.50 Dale House, £60 Butterdales & School Cottage.

Feeding ewes (332) to £67 Coolingel with hill types to £60 East Murton. Cast rams to £68 West Link Hall.

Cheviot lambs (2,426) another large entry, top draws getting scarcer, all lambs easily maintaining late high rates. Top £72.50 & £58 Bank Head, £58.50 Gillesbie Farm. Hill Cheviots to £58 Glebe Head, Glendinning, £57.50 Falnash, £57 Glendinning.

Blackfaces (1,701) larger numbers forward this week and with more buyers to the fore all classes sharper on the week. Top £57 from Horseholme; others to £55 Greensburn, £52 Upper Burnmouth & Edges Green, £49 Hott & Crookburn.

BREEDING SHEEP
A large end of season show of 1,293 breeding sheep of all classes were forward to an increased ringside of Welsh buyers, highlight of the sale was a tremendous run of Texel tup lambs and ewe lambs from A.R. Bell, Kirkton, Hawick, whose tup lambs sold to £420 and ewe lambs to £290.
