Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward an entry of 2,395 store hoggs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 26th February 2019.
Another good show attracted more buyers around the ring, bidding was very strong with all classes much dearer on the week and short of requirement. Again, top quality hoggs all sold over £80, to a top of £83 and £75 for Beltex from Newby. Texels to £82 Chapel House and North Thornbarrow, £80.50 Ballaggan, £80 Low Hayrake; Suffolks to £73 Chapel House, £72.50 Hepple Hill, £71.50 Satchells; Hill Cheviots to £75.50 Crosscleugh, £75 Bloch; Greyfaces to £77 & £73 Albierigg, £70.50 Pewter Close, £70 Nether House; Cheviot Mules to £64.50 Satchells; Hampshires to £62 Flatt (Atkinson); North Cheviots to £79 & £73 Ericstanes, £72 Moorside Parks; Blackfaces to £67 Allanfauld, £64 Westerhall; Swaledales to £48 Nether House, £46 Keskadale Hill, £44 Branthwaite.
Feeding ewes (184) all classes in strong demand. Sale topped at £72 for Texels from Shaw Cottage, £71 Downan; Greyfaces to £65 Glenlea; Suffolk crosses to £65 Waterhead of Dryfe. Hill ewes to £43 for Swaledales from Hamburgh Hall and Blackfaces from Albie Rigg; Cheviots to £42 Carlenrigg. Cast Rams to £65 Cooks House.
A large show of 1,000 breeding ewes and gimmers were forward to a large ringside of purchasers, with a fast selling trade being realised and all vendors going home high delighted. Sale topped at £120 for a pen of Mule shearlings from P. Gass Aldery Terrace. Closely followed at £118 for Suffolk cross gimmers from North Trewick, whose dispersal averaged £103.28.
