Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 443 store hoggs and cast ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 16th April 2019.

Again, hoggs met a flyer and were far short of requirements with buyers again over keen. Overall average £72.19.

Top £96.50 for Beltex from 3 Duke Street, Jedburgh. Others to £92 Hazelbank. Texels to £91 & £86 Keepershield, £88 3 Duke Street, £84 Milton Mains, £83.50 Latterford; Suffolks £94 Keepershield; Hill Cheviots £78 Satchells & The Bloch, £71.50 Satchells, £70.50 The Bloch; Charolais £78 Keepershield; Greyfaces £63 Satchells; Blackfaces £61 Mains of Collin. Feeding ewes to £105 for Texels from Hazelbank.

A much larger quality show of ewes with lambs at foot were forward today with buyers turning out in force, making sure all lots, in particular those with strong single lambs were well bid for. With the sale topping at £97 for a one-sided Texel ewe with strong lambs from Ali Ewart, Isle of Dalton, closely followed by others at £90, £85 & £84. With more being required for increasing buyer demand.
