Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 5,163 store lambs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 1st October 2019.

With the biggest ring of buyers seen all season; with many from the south of Wales, plus another good quality show forward. All classes met a fast selling trade at £3 - £5 up on the week. More lambs of all breeds could have been sold to vendors advantage.

Top of £70.50 and £68 for Suffolk crosses from Satchells. Beltex to £68.50 Fauld O Wheat. Texels to £70 and £68 Longformacus Farms, £69 Chapel House. Cheviot Mules to £62 Yetholm Mains. Greyface to £57.50 Sourhope, £54.50 Stableyard Cottage, £53.50 Ragithwhaite. Leicesters to £60 Whiteknowe. Easycare to £54.50, £54 Croys Lodge.

Tup lambs sold to £63 for Texels from Silloans. Suffolks to £62 Satchells.

Another good show of 2,071 Hill Cheviots & Blackface lambs met a very strong demand with the majority heading South. Top in the Cheviot section was £59.50 and £58 from Yetholm Mains, with others to £57.50 Millcourt, £57 Monklaw and £54 Blackhall (ex Hermitage). Blackfaces sold to a top of £50 from Troloss Farms, others to £48.50 Stell Green.

Feeding ewes and cast rams (276) were another useful show with trade again excellent for all classes of ewes and sold to a top of £72 and £70 Heathfield for Texels. Hill Cheviots to £60 Heathfield. Cast rams to £54 for Cheviots from Mallsburn.
