Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report
STORE SHEEP
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 8,367 store lambs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 29th October 2019.
One of the largest companys of both local and distant buyers this season and another large show of lambs on offer, trade was again strong with the highest rates of the season realised.
Top £88 for Beltex's from Prospect House; Texel to £75 High Loveladyshield, others to £72 The Crook, £71.50 Lea Hill; Suffolks to £70 Routin Lynn; Greyfaces to £64 Craighead, £63.50 Wydon Eals & Macherquat, £63 High Town; Cheviot Mules to £64 Shepherds Cottage & Yetholm Mains, £63 Annandale Estates; Leciesters to £58 High Burnfoot & Crindledykes; Lleyns to £58 & £58.50 South Port O Spittal; Herdwicks to £55 Barquhar; Romneys to £65 Scroggie Meadows; Dutch Texels to £62 Butterdales; Swaledales to £62 Edston.
Cheviot lambs (2,273) were another good entry and easily cleared at current high rates to a top of £61 Granton, £58.50 Skelfhill, £57.50 Glendinning; Hill Northies to £59.50 & £57.50 Yetholm Mains & £59 Kelsocleugh, £57 Raeburnfoot.
A much larger and quality show of Blackface lambs (2,147) saw extra buyers operating, trade just as dear as ever. Top £63.50 Horseholme, £60 Halterburnhead, £57.50 Craighead.
Feeding ewes (487) again a larger entry with all classes good to sell with more buyers present. Top £87 for Texels from Barnbackle; Greyfaces to £68 Toll Cottage.
Hill ewes to £53 Toftholm; Blackfaces to £37 Eweslees; Swaledales to £31 Overcairn. Cast rams to £59 Barnbackle.
BREEDING SHEEP
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward a large entry of 1,087 breeding sheep at their end of season sale at Longtown on Tuesday 29th October 2019.
An animated trade was seen throughout for the time of year, with many bidders for all classes of stock. Rams topped at £150 for an Easycare 4 shear and females to £90 for Easycares from Raeshaw Farms, who sold their dispersal of 470 ewes and gimmers to average £75.
