Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 4,823 store lambs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 5th November 2019.

Another quality show and a massive ring of both local and distant buyers present, all classes proved too few for buyers’ requirements, with the dearest trade of the season realised. All vendors went home very happy.

Top £78 for Texels from Borthwick Brae, others to £75.50 & £75 & £74.50 Quarryfield, £73 Uppercleuch; Suffolks to £78 Satchells, £73.50 West Rennington, £70.50 Powheads; Cheviot Mules to £71.50 Priesthaugh, £68.50 Mains; Mules to £70 Cara View, £69 Setterah Park, £68.50 Craighead, £67.50 Penpeugh; Berrichon £61.50 Wardrew; Swaledales to £59 Sundaysight; Leicesters to £65.50 Whitchester; Easycares to £55.50 South Healey; Shetland to £52.50 Goodhope.

Cheviots (1,201) a nice show, although top draws getting scarcer, met another fast trade. Top £63.50 for Hill Northies from Bradley, others to £63 Gospel Hall, £61 Priesthaugh. Hill Cheviots to £60.50 Granton, £59 Langhope & Skelfhill.

Blackfaces (1,003) also saw top draws scarcer, but trade still exceptionally dear. Top £64 for an outstanding pen from Horseholm, others to £63 & £61 Allensgreen, £60 Balmurrie & Coulinlongart.

Feeding ewes still easy to sell with numbers short of requirements. Texels to £65 & £60 Demense; Mules to £66 Demense; Cheviots to £54 & £53 Carlenrigg.

A small show of breeding sheep were again good to sell, to a top of £130 for a Texel shearling ram from The Inch. Ewes to £64 for 6yo Blackface ewes from Upper Hindhope.
