Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report
STORE SHEEP
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 5,188 store lambs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 12th November 2019.
A larger show of excellent quality met a flying trade from another large company of buyers, unfortunately many left unsupplied. Overall average for all lambs sold was £60.89.
Top £88 and £86 for Beltex’s from Rinnion Hills, others to £87.50 Aldery Terrace and £82.50 Gillalees. Texel £86 Rinnion Hills, £85, £81 Aldery Terrace, £82 Horseholme and Yeavering Cottage; Bleu d’Main £78 Ormiston Lodge; Suffolk £75 Gillalees, £72 Far Howe, £71 Foulsyke, £70 Logie; Charollais £75 Bankhead; Greyface £73 Haliburton, £72 Hightown, £71 Foulsyke, £70 Cragg Farm; Cheviot Mule £69 West Hills; Leicester £66 Greensburn; Lleyn £64 Dolphinston; Shetland £60 Brackenbank; Jacob £53 Old Chapel; Swaledale £48 Laverhay, £45 Monk Farm, £44 Low Todholes; Herdwick £36 Bonnyrigg Hall.
Cheviots (1,444) were another good show, trade very dear. Top £71.50 for Hill Cheviots from The Cooms, others to £67, £66 Hopsrigg, £66.50 Sorbie, £65.50 Satchells. Hill Northies to £71 Ghyll House and West Hills, £69 Elmbank.
Blackfaces (875) same as Cheviots, very dear. Top £70 Sewing Shields, £69 Horseholme, £68.50 Skelfhill, £67 Upperburnmouth (Dixon).
Feeding ewes (267) another strong trade, numbers short of requirements. Top of £102 for a Texel ewe from Boathouse, £100 Thornbrough Farms. Hill ewes to £53 for Cheviots from Bank Head; Herdwick £49 Monk Farm; Blackface £42 Gillalees; Swaledale £37 Monk Farm.
Breeding rams to £140 for Texel x Leicester from Yeavering Cottage and Charollais from Rigg Garth.
BREEDING SHEEP
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward a large entry of 1,087 breeding sheep at their end of season sale at Longtown on Tuesday 29th October 2019.
An animated trade was seen throughout for the time of year, with many bidders for all classes of stock. Rams topped at £150 for an Easycare 4 shear and females to £90 for Easycares from Raeshaw Farms, who sold their dispersal of 470 ewes and gimmers to average £75.
