Longtown Ladies Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd held its 6th annual "Longtown Ladies" evening sale of in lamb females and geld hoggs, on Tuesday 14th January 2020, with a catalogued entry of 207 head.

A very large crowd were in attendance to see an exceptional show of sheep which were a great credit to the vendors who brought them out; this resulted in 16 four figure prices being achieved and a tremendous clearance rate.

Leading the sale for the second consecutive year at 3,000gns was the second gimmer from the Auldhouseburn pen of Alan Blackwood, this being a daughter of Sportsmans A Star from his Ettrick Ennis family and sold in lamb to his homebred Crackpot He heads to Bruce Renwick’s Castlecairn Flock at Kelso.

First time Texel consigners Alan Wight & Family, Midlock followed at 2,400gns for their lead gimmer, which stood reserve champion in the show. Sired by Mullan Amigo and carrying a pair to Sportsmans Cannonball, this gimmer sold to EWG Scotland Ltd, who are establishing a new flock.

The nights champion closely followed at 2,000gns. She was from Steven Renwick’s Craig Douglas flock, who takes home The Harry & Irene Woodmass cup for the third consecutive year. This gimmer again sired by Mullan Amigo, sold carrying a single to Sportsmans Cannonball and went to Messrs Ayrton, Lancaster.

The dispersal of the adult portion of the Teviot flock from RH Bell & Co met spirited bidding and was very well received with their sale topping at 1,100gns twice, firstly for a 2016 born ewe by Holylee Volcano in lamb to Ettrick Cockney Rebel selling to Messrs Pritchard, Evistones; and secondly for a 2017 born ewe by Tima Yogi Bear in lamb to the same sire and sold over the phone to Neil Edmondson, Castlebank.  Closely following this, at 1,000gns was the leading gimmer, sired by Tima Anchor Man and in lamb to Ettrick Cockney Rebel, she sold to Messrs Beresford, Alnwick.
