Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

STORE SHEEP

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 2,627 store hoggs, cast ewes and rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 9th March 2021.

Another large entry attracted twice as many buyers with trade easily the dearest of the season and short of requirement. Top £141 for a Beltex hogg from Mains of Machermore, others to £139 Keepershield.

BREEDING SHEEP

A great show of 1,250 breeding sheep with many bidders for all classes, with several distant and volume purchasers present. Many men would go home well short of requirements.

Selling to a top of £188 for Texel x ewes scanned triplets from Messrs Tailford, Rinnion Hills who sold others at £175 & £160. Highlight of the sale was the annual consignment from John Casey, High Dunashery of 2-3 crop Swaledale ewes in lamb to the Bluefaced Leicester who averaged £127.03, up £36 on the year, for 321 ewes, selling to a top of £142 x2 and £135.
