Longtown Store Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 4,282 store lambs at their weekly sale on Wednesday 25th August 2021.

Another fantastic entry of store lambs with a lot of very well-bred sheep forward although best Beltex/Texel lambs were in very short supply and are required to fulfil an ever-present uplift in demand. Lambs sold to an increased ring of purchasers, ensuring all classes were considerably dearer on the week.

Topping the sale was a hefty Charollais tup lamb consigned by M/s C Baker, Craigshield Farm, Wark, Hexham, realising £136.

Highlight of the sale was an outstanding run of 500 Suffolk lambs consigned by M/s Bradbury, Satchells farm, Melrose which topped at £102 with further pens of 111 realising £99.50, 249 at £94.50.

Mules sold to an increase in trade topping at £95 for a pen consigned by M/s J Jackson & Sons, Cumstone farm, Corrie, Dumfries

Texels topped at £115 for a shapely pen of lambs consigned by Messrs CR Purvis, Shepherds Cottage, Halterburn.

Feeding Ewes to £131 from Westhills for Texels. Cast rams to £88 from Pennyseorach for Jacobs.

Many more lambs can be sold to vendor advantage at Longtown and are keenly sought after on a weekly basis. Please don’t hesitate to contact our auctioneers John Walton 07880 527066 or Neil 07771 685073.
