Longtown Store Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 6,778 store lambs at their weekly sale on Tuesday 7th September 2021.

A large show of lambs attracted a big crowd of buyers, especially from a distance. Trade was buoyant all throughout, with prices again slightly firmer on the week.

Top £120 & £118 for Beltexs from Messrs Milburn, Wallend, Greenhead, £116 Priory Nook; Texels to £110 Gall Farm & East Foreshield, £109 Shepherds Cottage, £108 Silloans; Suffolks to £100 Hullerbank & Raggithwhaite, £99 Waterhead of Dryfe, £97 Satchells; Charollais to £106 Shepherds Cottage; Cheviot Mules to £102 Shepherds Cottage; North Country Cheviots to £94 High Keenley Fell; Zwartbles to £85 Glebe Head.

Feeding ewes sold to a top of £85 Gartnagrenach Farm, others to £80 Moss Peteral, £79 Branxholm Braes. Cast rams to £70 Keppoch.

At the opening sale for Cheviot and Blackface lambs, there was an entry of 1,007 Cheviots and 1,130 Blackfaces. A good entry attracted plenty of buyers with trade dearer by £10 to £15 per head on the year. Top Cheviots was £94 for Hill Northies from High Keenley Fell, others to £82 Birney Knowe, £80 Effgill. Hill Cheviots to £81 Skelfhill, £79 Carlenrigg, £76 Glendinning & Sundhope. Blackfaces sold to a top of £70 from Blakehope, Dalhabboch, others to £69 Blakehope, Kilmichael, £67 Garheugh Farm.
