Longtown Store Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 9,185 store lambs at their weekly sale on Tuesday 21st September 2021.

Another large entry attracted a large number of Welsh buyers, together with the other usual company. Trade for top end lambs would be slightly easier due to the fat market prices, but all others would be very similar to last weeks extreme rates.

Top £127 & £107 for Dutch Texels from Messrs Bell, High Fell Hall, Hallbankgate, others to £103 Petterill Bridge End, £102 East Foreshield; Beltex to £100 Hobbiesburn, £94 Satchells, £89 Routin Lynn, £87 Nether House; Charollais to £98 East Foreshield; Cheviot Mules to £83 Balliemore, £82 Archbank, £80 Clarghyll; Greyfaces to £90 Felton, £86 Broadmea, £85 Albierigg & Clarghyll; Easy Care to £74.50 West Hott Bank; Swaledales to £45 Parkhouse. Tup lambs to £91 from 44 Rowanburn, others to £90 Yeavering Cottage. Hill tup lambs to £87 for Cheviots from Ewelees, £83 Blakehope and Blackfaces to £80 Forestry School Road.

Feeding ewes (500) more about trade dearer. Top £93 for Texel and Greyfaces ewes from Belsay Barns. Hill ewes to £85 for Cheviots from Greenside, with Blackfaces to £70 Henderland; Swaledales to £50 Peat Gap. Cast rams to £64 Corrylorn.

Cheviots another marvellous show of 2,582 with top quality not as prominent. A full ring of buyers ensured a trade similar to the previous weeks. Top £85.50 for Hill Cheviots from Glendinning, others to £80.50 from Twislehope. Hill Northies to £83.50 Priesthaugh, others to £80 North House & Terrona, £79 Blakehope.

Blackfaces (1,958) more about and a good proportion of top lambs, all classes easy to sell at current high rates. Top £86.50, £80.50 for pens from Sewing Shields, others to £77 Lamperts & Forrestry School Road, £75 Earlshaugh.
