Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts held their breeding sheep sale on Tuesday 28th September 2021.

A mixed entry of breeding sheep seen quality lots easy to cash, with some of the older, plainer sheep harder to cash. Selling to a top of £265 for a pen of pure Texels from Messrs Crosbie, Townfoot Farm.

A mixed show of ewe lambs met a keen enquiry, with a tremendous run of Cheviot Mules selling to a top of £155 and £145 from Floors Farming, Rawburn.

Another fine show of lambs forward with buyers present from all parts. Trade the best of the season up £5 on the week.

Top of £122 for Texels from Routin Lynn, who sold others at £110 and £107.50, other Texels to £103 Gill Head. Beltex to £107 Rinnion Hills, £105 Famington and £100 Paddockhole. Suffolks to £97 Muirhouse Farming and £95 Cragg Farm. Charollais to £97 and £91 Lanehead. Greyface lambs to £90.50 Kirkdale, others to £89 Hill Brae and £86.50 Sunnyside. Cheviot Mules to £93 Kirkdale and £90, £86, £84 Gall Farm. Kerry Hills to £95 from D’Mainholm.

Feeding ewes to £100 for Greyfaces from Holme Head with hill ewes to £50 for Blackfaces from West Link Hall.

Cheviots (2,536) were a quality show, many buyers present with trade unbelievable, up £5 per head. More could have been sold. Top of £89 for Hill Northies from Rawburn with others to £88 Priesthaugh and £87 Bradley. Hill Cheviots to £88 and £86 from Skelfhill, £86.50 Parkhill, £81 Terrona & Glendinning.

Blackfaces (1,247) were a smaller entry, nevertheless strong sorts a brilliant trade. Top of £90 Beech Cottage, others to £80.50 Winterhopeburn.
