Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 9,969 store lambs at their weekly sale on Tuesday 5th October 2021.

Just shy of 10,000 sheep contained many splendid pens of quality lambs, the usual buyers were in attendance with last week’s trade easily maintained, if not better and was very level throughout the day.

Top £144 for Texels from F Gibson, Southwood Head, Canonbie, who sold others to £118, £112, others to £117 Moorside; Beltexs to £116 Southwood Head, £107 Allensgreen; Half Breds to £108 Pilmuir; Suffolks to £107, £96.50 Heathfield, Orkney, others to £95 Tarrasfoot, £93 West Link Hall; Cheviot Mules to £102 Pilmuir, £95, £90.50 Priesthaugh; Charollais to £107 High Loveladyshield; Greyfaces to £94.50 Kirkdale, £87 High Burnfoot & Brennanlea, £84.50 Ardoch; Easycares to £75.50 East Fortissat; Kendal Roughs to £65 Church View; Swaledales to £57 Ottercops.

Feeding ewes (531) a larger show and dearer. Top £99 for Texel x from Barnbackle; Greyfaces to £83 Hullerbank; Cheviot Mules to £77 Eden Grove. Hill ewes to £69 for Blackfaces from Carskiey Estate; Cheviots to £67 Enzieholm. Cast rams to £101 for a Texel from Dunglass.

Another fantastic show of 2,447 Cheviots attracted many local and Welsh buyers, trade was again buoyant with late high rates being easily maintained. Overall average was £76.22. Top £87.50 from Messrs Warden, Skelfhill, Hawick, followed at £85 North House, £84 Priesthaugh. Hill Northies to £84 from Heathfield, Orkney, others to £81 Winter Cragg.

A bigger show of 2,671 Blackfaces attracted more buyers. Trade in general was dearer. Top £81 from PD Keen, Dunblane, Gilsland, others to £77 West Deanraw, £75.50 Meggethead and East Fortissat.
