Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had another monster show of 1,250 breeding sheep of all classes, seeing an animated trade for all quality stock, with all vendors being delighted with the day’s trading at Longtown on Tuesday 8th March 2022.

Ewes with lambs at foot started the sale at a ferocious pace with G Tutton, The Poplars selling his two to three crop Texel x ewes with twin lambs at £104 x2 and £100, to average £102.83 for 72 lives. Many more are required weekly to satisfy demand.

Highlight was the consignment of Mule gimmers & Swaledale ewes from J Casey & J Main, Argyll, who sold Mule gimmers to £202, £190, £180, with their well-bred two to four shear ewes to £132, £118, £116.

The dispersal of Blackface stock ewes from Whitehope surpassed pre-sale expectations selling to £100 twice with others at £98 and £94.

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 2,164 store hoggs, feeding ewes & cast rams at their weekly sale at Longtown.

An exceptional show of hoggs for the time of the year, attracted plenty of anxious buyers, trade was animated throughout with prices on par with previous weeks high rates.
