Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 3,116 store hoggs, feeding ewes & cast rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 15th March 2022.

With several buyers from a distance present and another large entry forward, best hoggs were scarcer on the week, all classes met a fast selling trade at current high rates.

Hill hoggs sold to a top of £100, £94 for Blackfaces from Andrew Reid & Co, Glendearg, Eskdalemuir; Cheviots to £101, £95 also from Glendearg; Swaledales to £79 Beacon Rigg; Herdwicks to £67 Rowhead, £59 Winter Crag.

Feeding ewes (255) another very dear trade. Top £153, £131 for a Texel from South Port o Spittal; Suffolks to £133 South Port o Spittal, £123 Windy Hill (Weatherley); Bleu Du Maine to £100 South Port o Spittal; Greyfaces to £113 Windy Hill (Weatherley), £101 The Dykes; Leicesters to £103 South Port o Spittal, who also sold Romneys at £109 and Dutch Spotted Texels at £116.
