BREEDING SHEEP

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had a mixed show of ewes and lambs on Tuesday 26th April 2022 which sold to extreme rates, being £5-10 up on the previous week. Selling to a top of £109 for a pair of Berrichon ewes with single lambs from Glasson, followed by a Charollais with twins at £108 from Rigg Garth.

Another good show made record prices for the time of year, with numbers short of requirements. Top £113 for Texels from Croft House, Ireby, £105 Gall; Beltex £109 Pilmuir; Charollais £107 Denty; Greyfaces £97 Denty; Cheviot Mules £101 Pilmuir; Blackfaces £89 Denty; Cheviots £79 Newlands; Badgerfaces £63 Gall.

Feeding ewes sold to a gigantic trade to £193 for Texels from Shaw Cottage, with Suffolks to £191 Shaw Cottage; Dutch Texels £133 Greenside; Beltex £129 Shaw Cottage; Greyfaces £137, £133 Waterhead of Dryffe; North Cheviots £151 Enzieholm, £132 Clarghyll. Hill ewes to £129 for Blackfaces from Gall Farm, others to £121 Enzieholm, £109 Shaw Cottage; Cheviots to £109 Enzieholm, £107 Gall. Cast rams to £143 for Dutch Texels from Greenside.
