Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

BREEDING SHEEP

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had another large show of ewes with lambs at foot on Tuesday 3rd May 2022, selling to a majorly increased ringside of bidders, with the dearest trade of the season so far.

Topping at £128 per life for a single ewe and lamb from Messrs Stephenson, West Millhills, who also sold a ring full of Texel ewes with twin lambs at £112 per life, £336 per outfit. The late Graeme McClelland sold a run of stock ewes with lambs to a top of £120 per life.

The first sale of hoggs with lambs at foot of the season witnessed a blistering trade, with all pre-sale expectations being well and truly surpassed. Trade being topped at £148 twice for two great pens of Texel x hoggs from annual consigners David Carr, High Wood, closely followed at £145 for the first prize pen of Suffolks from The Harras.

Many more are expected at our next show and sale on Tuesday 17th May.

A small seasoned show again met a strong enquiry.

Top £124 for Texels from High Town, Low Row, others to £94 Lintley; Greyfaces to £100 High Town; Ryelands to £76 & £72 Lower Ashtrees; Blackfaces to £63 Wanwood Hill.

Feeding ewes to £112, £110 for Greyfaces from Hamburn Hall, others to £107 Harper Hill; Texels to £104 Harper Hill.
