Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their weekly sale of 2,569 store lambs on Tuesday 2nd August 2022 at Longtown.

A better-quality show of lambs forward attracted more buyers, with trade very strong throughout the sale, as a result all classes sharper and short of requirements. Overall average £87.77.

Top £131 for Texels from Pilmuir, Hawick, whose consignment of 45 averaged £114.16, other Texels to £127 & £125 Townfoot (Rutter); Suffolks to £102 High Keenly Fell, £99 & £93 Ardroscadle, Isle of Bute; Beltex to £111 Nelson Hill, £100 Whintingstown, £99 Shitlington Hall; Charollais to £91 Monk; Half-Breds to £81 Monklaw; Berrichon to £95 Carse Farm; Blackfaces to £77 Belsay Barns; Cheviots to £77 Carse Rigg; Greyfaces met an extreme demand to a top of £78 The Knarr & Belsay Barns, £76 Belsay, Oxclose; Dutch Spotted to £81 Briery Square.

A feature of the sale was a consignment of over 200 Texel x Suffolks from Elmbank, which sold to £100 and the consignment of 308 from Emma Gray, Nether Ardroscadle, Isle of Bute which sold to £116.
