Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their weekly sale of 7,808 store lambs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 6th September 2022.

Another large entry attracted more buyers, with one or two from a distance, trade was sharper all round with prices slightly firmer on the week.

Top £120 for Beltex lambs from The Hagg, Roweltown, others to £110 Sorbie, £103 Low Craiglemine; Texels to £103 Rinnion Hills & Hurley Road, £101 Sannox Estates & Broadmea & Low Craiglemine; Suffolks to £96 Axletreewell, £95 Ragithwhaite & Langraw; Greyfaces to £96 & £92 Woodhall, £95 Enzieholm, £89 Kilmichael; Charollais £87 Weeds; Cheviot Mule £87 Archbank, £85 Broadmea; Badgerface Texels £84 Famington; Herdwicks £70 Ragithwhaite.

Included was the first weekly sale of Cheviot & Blackface lambs, were there was forward 1,033 Cheviots and 2,069 Blackfaces respectfully. Plenty of bidders ensured a good selling trade throughout. Top £83 for Cheviots from Meikle Whitriggs, £82 Megdale, £80 Hopsrigg; Blackfaces sold to a top of £73 & £70 Dunblane, £67 Ewelees, £66 Chaplehope & Kilmichael.

Feeding ewes and rams (455) a much larger entry sold to a very strong demand, more could have easily been sold. Top £87 for Cheviots from Famington; Lleyns to £83 Dolpinston, Greyfaces to £71 Birch Bush. Hill ewes to £68 & £61 & £60 East Fortissat.
