Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their weekly sale of 6,638 store lambs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 15th November 2022.

Another good show of lambs, with the most buyers present this year, met a strong selling trade, prices up £2-£3 on the week.

Top £120 for Texels from Ballaquinneabeg, others to £109 Far Howe, £108 Merkland, £107 Moss Side, £106 Halfway House; Beltex to £110 Halfway House, £108 Clarghyll; Charollais to £106 Far Howe; Greyfaces to £102 High Tirfergus, £97 Blakehope, £95 Clarghyll; Cheviot Mules to £101 Granton, £99 Skelfhill; North Cheviots to £88 Newton Cottages, £85 Fowberry Farm, £82 Philiphaugh & Blakehope; Suffolks to £112 Halfway House, £110 Newton Cottages, £107 Hallrule Mill; Blackfaces to £92, £84 Shepherds Cottage, £84 Skelfhill; Hill Cheviots to £99 Twislehope, £93 Skelfhill, £87, £86 Granton; Jacobs to £76 Old Chapel; Herdwicks to £60 Low Longlands; Ryelands to £68 Snab Farm.

Feeding ewes (740) good fleshed ewes much dearer, as was hill ewes. Top £155 for a Beltex from Moss Hill; Texels to £138 Meikle Whitriggs; Suffolks to £140 Moss Hill, who sold Charollais to £96 and Greyfaces to £88; North Cheviots to £102 Meikle Whitriggs. Hill ewes to £79 for Lleyns from Dolphinston; Blackfaces to £75 Carse Estate, £72 Ardnacross; Cheviots to £73 Priesthaugh, £71 Girnwood; Swaledales to £65 The Ash. Cast rams to £120 for a Cheviot from Twislehope; Texels to £98 Girnwood.

A strong show of 300 breeding sheep sold to a strong demand for the time of year, topping at £120 for Texel x ewes from Bordergate, who sold others at £116, £110 and £106.
