Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 4,468 store hoggs, cast rams and feeding ewes at their annual sale at Longtown on Tuesday 3rd January 2023.

A very good show of hoggs attracted a full ring of buyers from all over the UK, who attend this sale every year. Trade for strong hoggs of all classes was good as was quality hoggs, all others sold at a similar trade.

Included in the sale was the annual consignment from Mr RJ Muir, Low Stanley Farm comprising of 806 Beltex, Texel and Charollais cross hoggs, which were of the usual high standard. His top was £155 for a Beltex x hogg donated to Cancer Research UK and purchased by Andrew Baker of Hereford. Other prices were £104; Texels to £100, £95 (x2), £93; Charollais to £94 (x2).

Feeding ewes (77) again a similar buoyant trade. Top £120 for North Country Cheviots from Cumstone; Charollais to £94 from Muirfield. Cast rams sold to £145 for a Texel from Sweetbit; Blackfaces to £101 from Westhotbank; Kerry Hills to £110 from Sweetbit
