Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 2,346 breeding sheep at their lowland sale at Longtown on Wednesday 30th August 2023.

Topping the sale was a fantastic pen of 10 Beltex x Gimmers from K White, Morwood Farm realising £260, with a tremendous run of gimmer shearling averaging £235. Chasing not far behind the Beltex beauties was a pair of Charollais x Gimmers topping at £240 from previously mention K White, Morwood Farm,

Texel x Leicester gimmers from Hindmarsh Partners, Blakehopeburnhaugh fetching £220 per head. Suffolk x gimmers topping their section at £200 from WJ & JG Bell, Kinning Hall and Texel x Cheviot Mule gimmers topping at £190 twice from J Jackson, Fern House.

Mule gimmers up to £185 from RS Caitlin & Son, Hassendean, Hawick, with this tremendous run of 146 Scotch Mules averaging £168.

Topping the ewe section was 5 two shear Suffolk ewes realising £165 from Messrs Douglas & Co, Nethertofts Hawick. With Texel x ewes not far behind topping at £160 from RW & W Carruthers, Hill Brae. Charollais ewes to a top of £155 from A Blower, Glencairn.

Mule ewes topping at £145 for a pen of 29 two shear ewes, freshly spained 2 weeks ago, from D Story, Greenburn.

North Country Hill Cheviot ewes top at £90 for a pen of 27 one crop ewes from L Clark, Escart Farm
