Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 9,556 store lambs at their weekly sale at Longtown on Wednesday 13th August 2023.

A large show attracted more buyers from the South, trade again sharp with late rates again maintained.

Top £116 for Texels from Espland & The Hagg, others to £114 Routin Lynn, £113 Englishtown; Dutch Spotted to £109 Coatlith Hill; Beltex to £107 & £105 Whitstonehill, £106 Goslingmire Farm; Suffolks to £110 & £104 Englishtown, £102 Grahamsfield; Greyfaces to £99 Bayldon, £95 & £93 Craig Farm, £87 Hesleywell & The Row; Cheviot Mules to £92 Archbank; Romneys to £83 Knock & Maize; Kerry Hills to £95 Knock & Maize; Welsh Mountains to £54 Kirkton; Herdwicks to £54 Muirhead, £50 Low Whitebank.

Feeding ewes (441) still in strong demand. Top £148 for Texels from Kilcoo; Greyfaces to £82 Dale House; Leicesters to £114 Hesleywell; Beltex to £130 Moss Hill; Romneys to £86 Knock & Maize. Hill ewes to £72 for Blackfaces from Derskelpin, who also sold Kerry Hills to £74; Cheviots to £50 Knock & Maize & Gartnagrenach Farms.

At the special show and sale of Cheviots, there was an entry of 2,327, a marvellous show attracted plenty of buyers with trade being excellent throughout.

There was an entry of 2,524 Blackfaces lambs, a very good quality show on offer, trade was buoyant throughout with the majority of lambs being purchased by a buyer from Barrow in Furness. Top £97 from Haliburton, £91 Townshields, £87 Blakehope, £79 Sewingshields.
