Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 3,846 store hoggs, feeding ewes and cast rams at Longtown on Tuesday 5th March 2024.

Another good show of mixed quality hoggs which attracted a full ring of buyers, again trade was extreme with numbers short of requirements. Late high rates easily maintained. 

Top £169 for Texels from Pilmuir, others to £165 Broomhills & Kinning Hall and £154 Hallrule Mill.

Beltex to £159, £152 and £149 Northway, others to £149 Heugh and Bradley. Suffolks to £149 Kinning Hall and £144 Hazelbank. Hill Cheviots to £140 and £127 Crosscleugh. Blackfaces to £150 Glenshanna, £139 Wanwood Hill and £129 Earlshaugh. Greyfaced to £149 Gibblaston. North Country Cheviots to £141 Heatherfield, £135 Northway and £133 Pilmuir. Cast rams to £117 for Cheviots from Archbank.

 

There were 670 forward at the special sale of In-Lamb Ewes and Gimmers.

Another good show attracted many buyers including from Anglesey. Trade was buoyant throughout, with all classes very easy to sell. Top of £225 for Suffolk x ewes from Highfield Farming Ltd, Knock, who also sold Texels to £218.

Greyfaces to £175 & £168 Roshglen. Leicesters to £142 Kilmichael and North Country Cheviots to £138 Eastfield of Wiston.

Gimmers to £225 for Suffolk x from Highfield Farming Ltd. Cheviot Mules to £168 Knock and Maize, who also sold Greyfaces to £158. Cheviots to £138 Townfoot and Valais to £142 Roshglen. A very good entry of Blackface in lamb ewes sold at extreme rates. Top of £168 and £152 Balmurrie and £152 Glenshanna. Herwicks to £192 Pendicle. Ewe Hoggs to £142 for Greyfaces from Lowes Farming. The first of the season ewes and lambs forward were Dorset with twins at £70 per life from Bayles.
