Show and Sale for the Cheviot Sheep Society
CHEVIOT FEMALES TO £1,500
At Longtown on Tuesday 17th February 2026, C & D Auction Marts Ltd. conducted the fifth annual show and sale of 34 Hill (South Country) Cheviot in-lamb females and select geld hoggs for the Cheviot Sheep Society.
There was a crowded ringside in attendance with an encouraging number of younger breeders present, allied to some significant on-line bidding.

Champion a Four Crop Ewe sold for 1500gns from RH Paton Castle Crawford
The judge, Ian McKnight of New Luce found his champion in the pen of R.H. Paton, Castle Crawford, awarding the honour to a tremendous four-crop show ewe by Stirkfield Aftershock. Scanned triplets to Glenochar Riot, she sold for the top price of the evening, 1,500 guineas to David Morrison, Dalwyne Farm, Barr. Castle Crawford also topped the gimmer section with the 1,400 guinea sale of a 2nd prize Becks Twister daughter, in-lamb to the £18,000 Skelfhill VIP, to M.E. Scott, Yethousefields, Newcastleton. With another gimmer, by Townfoot Smartass, at 1,200 guineas, to Liam Matheson, Ballachraggan, Ross-shire, Castle Crawford`s pen of four averaged £1,233.
At 1,100 guineas, J.T. Fleming & Son of Hislop sold a Catslack King gimmer, in lamb to a Catslack ram; the Catslack connection continued with her purchaser being Messrs W.N. Douglas of Catslackburn, Yarrow.

Reserve Champion a Gimmer sold for 1000gns from J and D Hodge Dykes Farm
The reserve championship was taken by first-time consignors, J. & D. Hodge, Dykes Farm Auchinleck. Their gimmer, by Becks Take a Chance and in-lamb to Woodburn Absolute made 1,000 guineas to David Morrison who was also buyer of the champion. A regular supporter of this sale but a first-time consignor, Ewen MacMillan of Lurg, Fintry had a Townfoot Iceman gimmer at 1,000 guineas which went to W.N. Douglas. Two ewes sold at 950 guineas, these being a 2nd prizewinner from Langholm Initiative, Cooms and from Messrs Elliot, Hindhope, who had others at 900 guineas and 800 guineas. J. Common & Son, Crossdykes sold two gimmers at 900 guineas each and topped the geld-hogg section with a 750 guinea sale.
Ewes averaged £791; Gimmers £827 and Hoggs £630.
