Longtown Ladies Sale Report
The eleventh annual “Longtown Ladies” sale of pedigree Texel and other breeding females was held on Monday evening, 12th January 2026. There was a high quality entry which attracted much interest, both in the mart and on-line, with a very large crowd in attendance. The show was kindly sponsored by William Armstrong Transport with Elliot Gisbourne, Blackdale Texels, travelling from York to judge the event.
After claiming the championship in the afternoon judging, Donald Macphersons ewe hogg by Knap High Flyer out of a homebred Procters Chumba Wumba ewe was sold to the judge who purchased her at 5,000gns to take back to his Blackdale flock.
Making a return after a couple of years absence, Steven Renwick was back with a bang; firstly claiming the first prize Texel gimmer and reserve champion in the show, then claiming the nights second top price at 3,800gns, with Elliot Gisbourne again taking her home. For this money he also took home a Saltcotes Golden Eye daughter in lamb to the £10,000 Kelso purchase Ettrick Hugo Boss.
John Macgregor, Allanfauld continued on his seasons good run selling gimmers to 3,200gns and 2,800gns. At 3,200gns was his number 2 gimmer, being the daughter of Sportmans Grand Slam, out of a Seaforde Egyptian Warrior ewe. This gimmer was scanned in lamb to the 60,000gns Auldhouseburn In Business Now and she sold to Ed Samuel for his Hendre flock, Herefordshire.
His lead gimmer sold 2,800gns, being a Forkins Fancy daughter out of a Craighead ewe by Usk Vale Eagle Eye, scanned in lamb to Harestone Indiana Jones. This gimmer sold online to Gareth Flett for his Nistaben flock, Orkney.
Also at 2,800gns was Alan Clark from Garngour’s lead gimmer, being another Forkins Fancy daughter out of one of Garngours top females. She sold to Adam Mawson for his Midcombe flock, Bootle.
Robert Cockburn always brings a strong run to Longtown, with sales at 2,600gns and 2,400gns x2. These were taken by Ali Jackson, Topgun. Brandon Roth, Tolgus and Michael Dent, Frosterly, respectively.
Alan Blackwood, Auldhouseburn was again on top form with 2,600gns and 2,200gns. These selling to Messrs Allan , Cauldcoats and Sam Beachell, Samsar Texels, respectively.

Texel shearlings averaged £1,374 and ewe hoggs £841.
Suffolk ewes sold well to average £1,277 to a top of 1800gns twice from Ali Jacksons Tiptop flock.
With Dutch Spotted in lamb gimmers to 1,400gns and 1,300gns from D & L Steen, Coxhill. Blue texels sold to average £840 with a top of 1000gns.
81 Texel gimmer shearlings sold to average £734 with 20 ewe hoggs levelling at £614 and 13 ewes at £428.
