Longtown Primestock Sale Report

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc had forward 18 prime cattle, 1 young bulls, 42 over thirty month cattle, 4,922 prime lambs and 6,470 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown onThursday 23rd October 2014.

Prime cattle were short of requirements and sold to a similar trade, more quality sorts needed. Top price to 218.5p for a Charolais heifer sold by J. & N. Blaylock & Son, Hallburn.

A larger number of cast cows saw the best show of quality for some time sell to a much improved trade, dearer than the national trend.  Top price to 151.5p for a Limousin from J. Another grand show of 4,922 prime lambs met a fine trade selling to a full ring of active buyers. The sale averaged 163.2p (SQQ 165.7p). All classes sharper on the week with the best quality lambs realising extreme rates. More export weight lambs required. Heavy lambs also easier to sell.

Top price of £100 per head and 250p per kilo for Texels from Barrogill Mains.
