Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 16 cattle, 38 prime lambs, 3,444 prime hoggs and 2,746 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 11th May 2017.
The company held their weekly sale of prime stock where an entry of 16 prime cattle, bulls and OTM were forward. Numbers badly effected by several regulars on movement standstills. An entry of working cows sold to £1,113.75 for an Angus from Messrs Graham, Carruthers, who sold others to 135p per kilo.
Bulls: Numbers short, topping at 210p for a Limousin from Low Plains.
Clean: “Entire sale averages 217p” Heading says it all, plenty of competition at ringside all wanting cattle. The sale topped at 222p fir a Limousin from Messrs Taylor, Dashwell Green and secondly for a Charolais heifer from John Longlands, Tone Hall, who sold others at £1,387.00.
Farmers; Sale average of 217p @ 57% is equivalent to 380.7p per kilo deadweight.

A similar show of 3,444 prime hoggs were forward to the usual busy ring of buyers, all keen for sheep especially if well fleshed, resulting in the dearest trade of the spring for all classes. A much better show of well fed hoggs presented saw averages 10-15p better on the week, with many hoggs realising over £100. Well fleshed hoggs shall remain sought after at least until June. Sale topped at 258p for Beltex hoggs from Messrs Whaton, Snade, Dumfries and top price per head of £134 for Texels from Messrs Robertson, Becks, Langholm. Sale averaged 192.6p (SQQ 197.5p)

A similar show of 2,746 cast ewes and rams was presented to the usual ring of customers, saw heavy ewes on a par with last week although far more weight present, with hill ewes being £2-3 sharper and short of requirements. Rams similar. Sale topped at £150 for Texel ewes from Sharplaw Farms, Kelso with rams to £130 for Charollais from Beckfoot.
