Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 24 cattle, 4,231 prime lambs and 6,383 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 5th October 2017.
Slightly more cows on offer, with all classes a shade easier following national trend. The sale topped at 172p for a Limousin for GB Forster, Desoglin and also achieved top price per head of £1,075. Black & White cows to £1,055.60 sold by TB Imrie, Harelawhole. Prime heifers to 186p for a Hereford from Jerriestown.

A larger show of 4,233 prime lambs were forward to the usual ring of buyers, with a far better show for flesh, weight and quality forward, thus reflecting in the much improved average. Best quality lambs keenly sought after with heavy lambs regularly over £90. Lightweight lambs were sharper with the 33-37kg Blackface lambs notably dearer than store trade.
Sale topped at 256p for a pen of wonderful Beltex lambs from regular consignor Messrs Nixon, Oakwood, Selkirk. Top price per head of £102 for a ring full of great Beltex lambs from Messrs Halliday, Crawthat, Lockerbie. Overall sale average was 172.9p (SQQ 172.9p).

A much large show of 6,383 cast ewes and rams attracted the usual full ring of buyers, with heavy ewes £2-3 easier apart form the best quality, and hill ewes remaining similar especially plain types. Rams scarce of requirements and dearer.
Sale topped at £148 for a Texel ram from Messrs MacGregor, Relief, Ecclefechan and also a pen of great Texel ewes from Broom Park.
