Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 7,150 sheep comprising of 2,054 spring lambs and 5,096 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 8th July 2021.
A larger show of 2,054 new season spring lambs proved to be slightly easier on the week across the board. Commercial export lambs traded between 245-255ppk whilst heavy lambs again were the trade of the week.
Top per head of £148 for Suffolk’s from J Lamb, Ingleston, Ayr.
Top price per kilo of 297p for Beltex lambs shown by G Mitchinson & Son, High Greenhill, Brampton.
Overall average 253.2p (SQQ 253.4p)

A much larger show of 5,096 ewes were forward to an increased ring of very competitive buyers.
Heavy ewes sold to serious rates right through the sale, with commercial and overfat ewes seeing the biggest rise. Also, in demand were the well fleshed hill ewes which proved in short supply, whilst leaner hill types proved harder to cash on the week.
Heavy ewes topped at £205 for a pen of four Texels shown by A & H McColm, Crailloch, Port William.
Hill ewes topped at £124 for Cheviots from J Davidson, Grahamsfield, Kirkpatrick Fleming and £110 for Scotch Blackface ewes consigned by B Cheesbrough, Lanehead, Brampton
Mule ewes topped at £127 for a penful of 21 consigned by RS Catlin & Son, Hassendean, Hawick.
Rams to £160 for Continentals from Beckfoot.
