Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 8,501 sheep comprising of 4,821 prime hoggs and 3,680 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 26th January 2023.
A smaller and mixed entry of cast cows were forward to the usual competitive ringside of buyers, all classes remain very much in demand. The sale topped at 188p and 181p for Galloways from the Firm of J Tullie, Fenwick, Hawick, which also topped the sale at £1,071.
More numbers can be handled here with ease and are actively sought after on a weekly basis to fulfil ever growing purchaser demand.

A smaller show of 4,821 prime hoggs were forward. Best Beltex and 3/4 bred Texel Hoggs proved good to sell also smalls took a slight lift, whilst other categories met some resistance.

Top per kilo of 382p for Beltex hoggs from Gelston Castle, Boreland of Kelton, Castle Douglas.

A smaller show of 3,680 cast ewes and rams forward. Cast ewes realised the same good rates of return as last week. Good meated horned ewes, heavy ewes and best Texel ewes were the trade of the day. Numbers wanted through February to satisfy demand.
Texel ewes topped at £270 from W Barr & Co., Thirlestane, Lauder.
Hill ewes to £100 for Blackfaces from Messrs Paull, Treloy, Cornwall.
Rams sold to £185 for Texels from Thirlestane.
