Great Annual Kirkcambeck Sale of Store Cattle
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward a fantastic catalogue entry of 1,147 at their Annual Kirkcambeck Sale on Saturday 15th October 2016.
A packed ringside of bidders coming from across the UK, all keen to fill their wagons, with many buyers getting between 40-100 cattle. Sale averages were slightly down on the year which has followed national trend over the last 3 weeks.
The sale topped at £1,130 for a Limousin bullock shown by C. Aitchison, 12 Kershopefoot. Galloway bullocks peaked at £985 (x2) from C.G. & M. Noble, West Acres. Blue Grey bullocks topped at £995 from A. & A. Hogg, Milnholm and Shorthorns also £995 (x2) sold by E. Taylor, Wallish Walls. Angus bullocks peaked at £1,105 for a pen of 9 shown by E.A. Dodd, Roanstree.
A feature of the sale this year was the show for native bred heifers, which was extremely well supported with over 30 pens of cattle in the show. The judging was in the capable hands of Mr James Kyle, Hill House, Walton, the latest generation of a family renowned for their support of native cattle, who went about his duties with a serene calmness inspecting every pen and animal with a thoroughness commented on by spectators. He found his 1st prize single heifer and pen of 4 heifers from the consignment of Galloways from Mr J. Thornton, East Murton, County Durham. 2nd prize heifer, a Blue Grey, came from Andrew Tullie Farming, Whitchesters. Second in the pens was Beef Shorthorn’s from Paul Bell, Kirndean.
